Drawing room in South Kensington, in progress, for an American family living in London.
Simple Flat, Little Venice.
This flat was refurbished simply, for resale. The rooms were refigured to create a large airy one-bedroom flat from many smaller rooms. We created a large open-plan living room and kitchen, and a new bathroom.
The owner wanted to create a simple, airy and unpretentious flat with character.
It was essential to the owner that the flat felt peaceful.
Farrow and Ball colours were used throughout, and the flat was styled with furniture and lighting from Katrina Phillips Ltd in Portobello Road.
The flat sold within days of being on the market.
St John's WoodDining Room/Drawing Room
Belonging to a young couple with four children, this drawing room is part of a total house refurbishment undertaken by Katrina Phillips Interiors. The walls are painted in Katrina's own colour 'Audrey' which can be ordered through Katrina Phillips. Antique and Contemporary pieces individually sourced by Katrina have been combined to create a smart yet relaxed room in the clients' preferred quite masculine style...deep charcoal mohair, black velvet and chocolate brown are brightened with flashes of coral and dulled silver leaf.
My clients had recently moved from the Middle East to London, and the brief for these adjoining rooms was to create a space for entertaining their friends.
The clients already had pieces of furniture and art that they had bought in China, and wanted to incorporate them into the scheme, whilst creating the sense that they were 'In London'. We decided on a palette of silver and gold, with highlights of amber and citrine, which echoed the leaves of the trees outside in the garden, and picking out the more muted tones in the artworks, to create a more tranquil feel.
We commissioned a large, comfortable sand mohair sofa from George Smith, and recovered the clients existing chairs (I like to make use to existing furniture wherever possible, to save unnecessary waste) in a cocktail weave.
We made cushions of citrine silk damask, and purchased beaded and velvet ones from Birgit Israel.
I replaced the top of the coffee table with antique mirror, to add light, and lift the room.
At William Yeoward, we found exactly the right spun glass piece to pull the room together, in sparkling amber.
Curtains made from a very gentle warm pale yellow, semi-glazed linen were kept simple - with folded hem detail. The poles were commissioned from my ironmonger, and were very narrow square poles.
In the dining room, we wanted glamorous pieces to rub shoulders with a bit of rough - like a good dinner party really -
so B & B simple linen chairs and a fabulous Julian Chichester oval table sit alongside a draper's table with raw limestone top, and an ancient olive oil pot lamp.
We found the drawings in an antique shop, studies from a museum...
I like pieces with a story, especially in a dining room.
Thank you for visiting.
I am currently engaged in several absorbing and interesting projects, which means I am not taking on any new work unless it is of significant interest to me.

Accessorising and interiors styling:
Last summer we opened the gallery in Ibiza and as well as full design of several villas there, we have been asked to do swift interiors styling of villas in Ibiza, with great success. Interior styling is charged by the day, and we can make an immediate astonishing difference very quickly.
